This popular little herding dog is a favorite of families because they are easy to train and are so playful. Shetland Sheepdogs can be aloof with strangers at times, but they are highly intelligent and loyal to their family. Developed in the rugged Shetland Islands off the North Westerly coast of Scotland, this small hardy breed of herding dogs was created to work amongst the rocks, herding the sheep. Double-coated, this breed has a long, straight and coarse topcoat. Shetland Sheepdogs require regular brushing to keep their coat clean and mat free. The colors of this dog are black, blue merle, and sable.
